OpenClaw: an open-source personal agent

An open-source agent that runs on your own computer or server, takes tasks through WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack and other chat apps, and works with many models.

100K+GitHub stars when it became OpenClaw

Why it matters

Agents went from big-company products to something anyone can host; within two months it was one of the fastest-growing projects on GitHub. In February 2026 its creator joined OpenAI and the project moved to an independent foundation.

Costs and controversy

Born as Clawdbot in November 2025, it was asked to rename over the similarity to Claude, briefly became Moltbot, and settled on OpenClaw on January 30. Giving an agent access to your own machine also carries real security risk.
